Rail Budget 2008/09: Coach Factory at Kerala

Latest Railway budget for 2008/09 was presented by Lalu Yadav today in the lower house of parliament. This is a good railway budget for Kerala compared to previous budgets.

Laloo Yadav announced a new coach factory for Kerala :
"The demand for Metro coaches in the country is also rising steadily. In light of
all these requirements a new rail coach factory will be set up in Kerala. The
State Government of Kerala has also made available 1000 acres of land for this
factory. "

*50 PCT DISCOUNT ON TICKETS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
*will award contracts for upgrading Mumbai, Delhi, Patna, Secundarabad Stations to pvt players
*Reservations through mobile phones.
*Issuance of wait-listed e-tickets to be allowed.
*Smart card-based ticket system.
*Only Stainless Steel Coaches to be produced after FY10.
*Escalator,Shelter,Multi Level Parking,LED National Display Boards,Online Software Train Tracking in two years, Internet inside trains!?. , GIS, GPS, RFID..
*336 mln tonnes coal likely to be transported in 07/08
*Railways to invest Rs 4,000 cr to add discharge-free green toilets in 36,000 coaches
*Indian Railways has a cash surplus of 250 billion rupees in the 2007/08 financial year
*New coaches in satabdi by 2011.
*50-55 PRIVATE CONTAINER TRAINS BY END OF FISCAL YEAR .
*Plans bulk handling terminals for cement, fly-ash, food grains.
*Public-private partnerships.
*CCTV, Metal Detectors,Close circuit TV to be installed at all major stations for security .
*10 new Garib Raths to be introduced.
*53 pairs of new trains.
*Extension of trains : 16 pairs.
*Increase in frequency : 11 pairs.
