BSNL started testing its Wi-Fi services in India long back. Since central government consider Kerala as a place in Pakistan controlled Jammu-Kashmir we are not getting due attention and various services are implemented at other states. Even the officers who are very brilliant and talented at BSNL Pattom Customer care centre know about many services only when it is published in the website to the public at www.bsnl.co.in

Here are some updates on activities of BSNL in Thiruvananthapuram.Wi-Fi service are available now at

• KTDC Mascot Hotel at Trivandrum.
• Technopark, Kariavattom Trivandrum
• RTTC Campus,Trivandrum

An employee said there are plans to implement this at our Railway station and Airport so that we can watch Sreesanth crying and Santosh Madhavan smiling or get exam results online.

BSNL Wi-fi Hotspots Prepaid Card Charges



There are two types of BSNL wifi hotspots in trivandrum.
Wi-fi Hotspot type-A is for airports, railway stations, universities...
Wi-fi Hotspot type-B is for hotels, private institutions, libraries etc...

You can buy BSNL Wi-fi cards and recharge with different denominations as shown. The advantage is the speed of upto 54Mbps (100 times faster?). Instead of downloading a movie overnight you can buy a 100 rupee card and download many movies in an hour.

BSNL CDMA EVDO (nic card/usb) facility is now available at Paruthippara,Medical College,Statue,Kovalam,Poojapura,Vellayambalam in Trivandrum. The one that we have now is just the low-speed version and its too expensive compared to a GPRS connection.

The GPRS usage charges are competitive 2 paise per KB for Prepaid General, New Ananth, Old Ananth, One india while Vodafone GPRS rate is 10 paise/KB, without any activation charges.

BSNL Pre-paid Plans and Charges, Recharge Coupon denominations




The BSNL Dataone-Broadband charges have been revised now. There are plans to introduce Multiplay(Triple play services) where you can watch television programmes online through the always ON braodband and even record (BSNL nPVR) television programmes online. These were announced at the World Telecommunications Day Celebrations at RTTC Tvm @ kaimanam on May 17 2008.

You can register for these at Customer Service Center at LIC building Pattom,Ph 0471-2544444 / 0471 2544343. They will never take those phones, won't work on Second Saturdays and Sundays, till noon on Saturdays and from 9 to 4 on working days with break from 1pm-2pm, which means you have to take a leave to visit them.

The same applies on bill-payment, you cannot pay BSNL landline bills online at Kerala even now. Federal Bank had the facility before but they withdrew it.
