I do believe on your information regarding the launch of pvt fms at kochi. only thing that i wanted to clarify is that at no time there was or is any need for tower erection etc . DDs tower at kakkanad is alloted for transmission of these fm stations. These pvt fms needed to have some power supply and supplementary things to be done at the site. some govt redtapeism has delayed the arrangements there. One suspect and the only suspect is the Prasar barathiKochi Fm fellows as they are pretty sure that their listenership will decrese for sure, and their earnings from advts will go down.Kochi Fm is one of the few Govt Fms which is running in profit. I just wanted to let u know that they are the same people who were dead against transmission of kochi fm in stereo saying that stereo transmission needed more staff etc. Later the equipments for stereo was shifted to some other station . I think it is manjeri from where they are transmitting in stereo.
I just dont know why this third estate media magnats like manorama & mathruboomi are not highlighing on this issue in their dalies. Not even a sign of protest from their side. They dont have the guts to go public in this issue because they fear backlash from the Govt. and lot of their money is in stake. As u people know bidding for kochi Fms stations cost them dearly and now they are in a fix.

Pvt fms is to be launched by vishu. Just wait for a few more days for test transmission to start. Radio mango people have given this information. earlier they said that it will be before april 20th now yesterday they have said that the launch would be before april 15th 2008

Radio Mango is going on changing their comments regarding launching dates. Today they are saying that they havnt yet got the date for permission for launching which may be after or by 20th of april 2008.

i was able to receive BIG 92.7 FM,Mirchi 98.3 FM , club FM ,S FM and ananthapuri fm in crystal clear stereo.sometimes signal fluctuates..........
anyone pls comment...however i was not able to recieve stations from trissur which is nearer..

As Kochi is been considered as a Metro city, there shouldn't be any discrepancies and the programs must be the best. They are reviewing how it works in smaller cities like Calicut, kannur etc.
From all these they will take out points to be cared for and then launch....

Sunfm seems to have the strongest signals then club fm .Radio mango has the weakest signals. Sony car stereo coulnt detect Radio mango even at monisha junction at cherthala.

Stations Aren't powerful enough ?
In Kottayam And Alappuzha district is it weaker than tvm stations?
If the car audios which are supposed to have very sensitive tuners, if they are not picking up in 40 50 km distance then the ordinary radio might not pickup anything at all in these parts...
my friend who is residing near medical college kottayam says that he is getting real stereo phonic transmission for the 3 stations in his car audio and no overlap with club or with any suryan fms from T.N.
But why in newspapers they claim 50 km radius Or is it not??
Usually when they claim 50 km radius the car audios will pick it up in 100 km radius.If the tower is short then the range will be reduced significantly...

'Kochi'ans must be happy now. their wait is over. club fm@Kochi is broadcasting programmes different from their other stations. any way LATE aayi vannaalum LATEST aayittanu vannirikkunnathu. all stations claim that they are No.1 in kerala. but my ranking (as far as TVPM is concerned) goes like this.....
1. anantapuri
2. Club fm
3. S fm
4. Big fm
5. Mirchi (only malayalam songs that too only new ones)

me from TVPM. kochi pvt. fm stations-nte paripadikal engineyundu? as far as TVPM is concerned Anantapuri rules. they are way ahead of others content-wise. only thing is that it's not a 24-hour channel. i don't understand why pvt. stations are not able to broadcast variety programmes like their AIR counterparts. govt. might have imposed some restrictions I suppose.

no competition for Ananthapuri as of yet. the pvt. fm stations are playing the same songs day after day. RJs very talkative and ask such silly questions that makes the listener to tune out. its obvious that they ask such silly questions so that they get so many answers through SMS. no such gimmicks in Anantapuri.

well i am a bit disappointed now after the initial excitement. only thing +ve abt new FMs is that they are available 24 hours. its high time that Anantapuri be made an exclusive malayalam channel and there is enough space for AIR FM Rainbow here bcoz there is a large fan-following for hindi songs, ghazals etc. expected a lot from Big & Mirchi but neither of them are playing hindi songs. btw i should say that Club fm is a double surprise (its delivering more than expected.

2 quality programs seperately
eg: in terms of power: club fm > ...>....>SA fm>102.3 kochi ??
and as well as quality of programs.
Usually hassle free stereo reception is in 20 km radius without accesory fittings, outside at times it is possible but usually clear monophonic only for a 10kw transmitter at a decent height say 125 meters.but in bigger metros like mumbai or delhi where there is 20kw transmitters mounted even higher up may cover 40 km in powerful stereo quite efficiently and in clear monophonic they will have a reach for 100 km radius.

11 bulletins are broadcasted per day. Hourly news headlines bulletins from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m and also at 1, 3, 5, 6, and 8 p.m. are broadcasted.
At present All India Radio Trivandrum, Kozhikode F.M. Stations are broadcasting headline news.
Regional news desk Trivandrum prepares the news and the same news is sent to Kochi for broadcasting.

Enthe ella stationilum oruparticular orderilano songs play cheyunnathu ? if the songs keep repeating its so boring, + kovais radio city plays only selected new/recent songs again and again and all over again that too only tamil.here our radio city has little more variety hindi, english songs .They should have some other programs than songs, may be good news coverage or meta analysis of current political/social problems if they are permitted i know there are restrictions.Imagine if best fm can air its asianet news it will be quality stuff, good for listeners .
i think at some selected time they can broadcast good songs from all over the world which we will not get from any other source, usually the new songs released here will be downloaded somehow from the net, through mobile we transfer it to virtually everybody and soon those song will loose all its freshness and the radios will have nothing more to offer esp when they are 100% music oriented...
Hmm still searching for new arenas for the audio broadcast..
Is DAB (digital audio broadcast) digital radio transmission presently in India ? The present new fm stations are analog right ?

KOCHI: The city sky is to have its rainbow back. The Kochi edition of FM Rainbow channel of the All India Radio is coming back on Sunday. At frequency 107.5. It was started in 2006, but went off the air in between.
Now as the skies are crowding up with private FM channels, it is time to make a different note heard. In the way only All India Radio could do. Starting from 6 a.m., the Kochi FM Rainbow will be available till 12 noon and then will resume at 5 p.m. to go on till 7 p.m. During the gap in the afternoon and evening hours, Vividh Bharati and Delhi Rainbow will tune in.
“We are targeting a wider audience, cutting across barriers. Being a metro, this city has a sizable population of Hindi-speakers as well as other linguistic communities. That is why we have retained select programmes from Vividh Bharati and Delhi Rainbow.
Also, there is a segment titled Mazhavilkavadi, which is aired between 9 and 10 in the morning, featuring film songs from all Indian languages,” said R.C. Gopal, Station Director, FM Kochi. FM Rainbow will feature hour-long programmes. Programmes on Kochi FM at 102.3 will continue.

Evide enthayalum new pvt stations are powerful than the air stations .
evide car radio il clear mono ,stereo aakenamenkil higher ground il pokanam pakshe yathrayil ellayidathum satisfactorily nannayi kittunnu. I had to lower my antenna to ground plane to get the stations clear in stereo i dont know why, may be the relatively powerful signals are overloading the booster.at higher plane 93.5 and 94.3 are getting slight distortion due to club fm from tvm and suryan fm from elsewhere although there is no gross overlap.

Present situation is that no single channel can confidently be fixed to hear some Malayalam songs. The remote control finds no rest at all. The newly restarted AIR FM rainbow service has much to do: With the wide variety of classics and evergreen songs, they should not follow the path of private channels- Allow specefic time for other languages, but never mix different language songs giving less than one third chance for Malayalam. However they should upgrade to sterophonic broadcast without delay- Kochi AIR should be ashamed that even Manjeri AIR has stereophonic broadcast.

Then what abt Thiruvananthapuram where Ananthapuri Fm was the only one FM b4 the launch of Private Stations... whats the status of ananthapuri FM i mean FM in thiruvananthapuram.....

same story here in TVPM. Ananthapuri is the only relief. our expectations abt the new FM have been shattered. especially radio mirchi. they are playing only malayalam songs that too 'adipolis'. but since adipoli songs are less in malayalam they are 'forced' to play melody songs also. if Ananthapuri is made a 24-hour channel, the pvt. FM stations will have to run for their money. my ranking for the fm stations in TVPM goes like this:
1. Ananthapuri..........7/10
2. Club FM..............5/10
3. Big FM...............3/10
4. S FM.................3/10
5. Mirchi...............1/10
btw the worst RJs are of S FM. Radio Mirchi comes 2nd.

Anantapuri FM technically does not match with the pvt. FM stations. but it is not that bad either.

Nobody noticed ? AIR Kochi 102.3 Mhz is now started transmission in stereophonic but unfortunately the volume balance, one of the channel i think the right volume is too low .
Kris if they are making a new transmitter, why dont they broadcast gyan vani through the present 107.5 transmitter and use the new one for rainbow !

When I went to Cochin I saw big Banner Ads of -Club FM- inside cochin city and also at many key places.
@Arun: keralathil, especially, thiruvananthapurathu 24 hrs ads kittumennu avar prateekshichathu avarude thettu. Hindi/english songs koodi include cheythu variety programmes b.cast cheythal 24 hrs-um listeners undakum. btw mirchi continues to be the most boring channel.
is there any chance for FM Gold or Rainbow in TVPM in the near future?

On the radio front, Malayala Manorama Group's Radio Mango has crafted innovative content in the form of programme capsules like Maveli Returns as part of the humour genre. OB programme called Onamkeralamoola will be on air from next week onwards, wherein bumper gifts will be hidden in various parts of the cities and listeners will have to find them out through given clues. Apart from this, various other ground events have been scheduled to be launched by the radio station for Onam festivities.
The events will essentially have all the traditional features of the festival including Pookkalam (floral rangoli) contests at colleges, technopark, residential colonies at Cochin in partnership with BIG TV. Carrying forward the myth of King Mahabali visiting on the day of Onam, RJ "Veeru" will be dressed as Mahabali and will visit Onam-related activities across the city. At its Trivandrum station, the station has planned Kalamodakkal` ( akin to the madka breaking contest during Janmashtami).
Winners of various lined up on-air contests will be called for an elaborate Onam "sadya" (feast), in partnership with Kairali Heritage, a leading hotel at Kannur.
On account of Teacher`s day on 5 September, the station will carry some on ground activities at Holy Angels College, Trivandrum followed by an exciting treasure-hunt among city On 6 September.
On Sep 9, Club FM will organise inter-collegiate Onam fest organized at Thrissur Classical Dance, Kaikottikkali (dance performed by women during Onam), Maveli (Mahabali) fancy dress, Uriyadi (matka breaking) and Vadam Vali (tug-of-war). `Pachakaratnam Mahilamani`, the comedy cooking show (wiiner of RAPA award for best humour-programme on FM radio), will give listeners fun-filled recipes for dishes associated with Onam across all four stations. Club FM Cochin will have celebrity guests hosting shows specifically around Onam theme. Other events lined up include fancy dress for kids, 'Thiruvatira' (the graceful Onam dance performed by ladies) contest at City Centre, prominent shopping arcade at Kannur.

i'm not sure whether club fm stopped broadcasting in other stations too. any way no b-casting from tvm after 12.30 a.m. mean while ananthapuri fm has come up with numerous programmes and is giving tough time for the pvt fm stations. they have increased the programme hours. now not much relay from vividha bharti.
